A manager is believed to act and be accountable for decisions he/she makes on behalf of the employer. The employer frequently has the mandate to hold the manager liable for his/her actions and correctly executes its powers (Hood, 2010). Merriam Webster's defines accountability as the "quality or state of being accountable especially: an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one's actions." A manager can display accountability in two ways: being answerable to their decisions and actions and sanctioning misconducts and negligence. The level of responsibility differs; when the principal is a higher leadership, the accountability goes upwards, but if the principal is a community or citizens, the accountability level goes downwards (Murphy et al., 2017).
