The Christian perspective of the nature of spirituality and ethics in contrast to the perspective of postmodern relativism within health care
Christianity is the largest religion globally, with approximately 7.3 billion believers making up around 31% of the world's population (Hackett & McClendon, 2017). Christians have a distinct belief in spirituality as outlined in the teachings of the Bible. Spirituality refers to recognizing a belief or feeling that something greater than a human being exists and that humanity exists in divine nature (Spencer, 2016). Christians believe in the holy trinity of God the Father, God the Son, and the holy spirit. This means that God is three in one and sustains everything on earth.
According to Christians, God reveals himself through different things, including Jesus Christ and the Bible. Christians' spirituality and ethics have their foundation in the holy trinity and the Bible teachings. Ethics refers to the moral obligation to do good over bad and treat humanity with dignity (de Spinoza, 2020). It is founded in the spirit of positive virtues that will benefit society and bring fairness into the world. Like every other worldview, Christians have their reservations on what is good and bad as taught in the Bible. They believe that God is the basis of ethical living. The Bible teaches people to be good to others because it reflects the nature of God. Mathew 22:37-39 says, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like, unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
Postmodern relativity refers to the view that there is no truth in the common sense of a concept. It implies that truth is invented and not discovered. Therefore, the concept of a situation can be right or wrong depending on different worldviews. For instance, the phrase "murder is wrong" is relative because it only depends on the murder's situation. However, Christianity does not support any murder despite the situation it occurred in.
Explain what scientism is and describe two of the main arguments against it
Scientism is not science as it might sound. Instead, it is a philosophical statement that states the belief that the best and the only way to acquire any knowledge of reality is through science (Haack, 2016). This means that if something is not known scientifically, then it is not known until that time it is proven and known scientifically. Scientism has two major arguments against it, that scientism is self-refuting and has clear limits. First, the scientism thesis, which states that the only way to know the world is after it has been proven scientifically, fails its truth test because it cannot be proven scientifically. It is contrary to the scientism belief that the only way to get true knowledge is through science. The thesis statement is self-refuting because it invalidates itself by definition.
Second, science is a powerful way to gain knowledge of the natural world, but it is a limited source. It does not tell us anything about ethics and how human beings should use scientific results. Science can only describe things the way they are but hardly tells us how to behave morally, unlike in Christianity (Haack, 2016). For instance, it does not inform us how to love other people, help the poor, or keep promises. It also does not have a solution for science ethical dilemmas as it cannot determine the right thing to do. Another instance where science does not provide a solution is through chronic or terminal illnesses. Science can tell us the effects of the terminal illness in a person's body but does not give us a solution to save the person. It also does not tell us whether using euthanasia is good to commit mercy murder is good or bad.

Ultimate reality refers to something supreme and fundamentally powerful in all realities. Christianity believes that God is the ultimate reality. He is the beginning and the end of everything on earth and beyond the skies. Hinduism believes that Brahman is the ultimate reality and the highest universal principle in the universe. It is the genesis of all that exists. It does not change, yet it is the cause of all that changes (Snooks, 2016).
