Cancer Patient’s Video Analysis
Question 1: Patient’s Statements on Chemo side Effects
Gill, a breast cancer patient, describes the side effects of chemo as uncomfortable. In her online video, she repeatedly uses the term obnoxious to describe her feeling after the first chemo treatment (ISmileTodayBecause.com, 2015). Gill gets emotional after the chemo side effects progress to the stage of losing her hair. She asserts that losing her hair will make her feel sick.
Nalie, also a breast cancer patient, is scared of the struggles she will have to undergo during chemo. She is sad because her age mates and friends are going on to have fun while she struggles with the effects of chemotherapy. She describes chemo effects as exhausting, and she would not want to go through the process a second time.
Sofia describes her chemo side effects as intense. In her vlog, she recalls not being able to consume anything (Sofia, 2016). She also recalls the intense pain and shows a complex machine used to ingest pain relief drugs in her body (Sofia, 2017). Sofia struggled with losing her hair after chemo.
Mike positively approaches the side effects of chemotherapy. He perceives these effects as another challenge he has to overcome to reach his aspirations (UC San Diego Health, 2018). Whenever the side effects such as feeling weak and dizzy wear off, Mike quickly gets back to training for the Ironman World Championship.
Question 2: Patient’s Unique Personality Characteristics

Strong social support is also an outstanding characteristic of all four patients. The patients are offered social support by their families and friends throughout the treatment process. Sofia has social support from her favorite artist Ed Sheeran.
Question 3: Patient with better Positive Outcome
From the analysis, Mike is likely to have a more positive outcome. Mike’s morale is not affected by chemo treatment. He remains consistent with his resolve to fight the diseases and participated in the Ironman World Championship. From his video, it is evident that Mike does not dwell on the effects of the chemo treatments he undergoes. Instead, he is focused on improving his physical strength to compete in the championship effectively.
Question 4: Patient likely to succumb to Cancer
Sophie remains positive throughout her treatments. After the proton treatment in the U.S., she remains in remission for several months. Unfortunately, her cancer returns, and she decides to cease treatment and focus on living the best life she can for her remaining time. Sofia is likely to succumb to cancer compared to others since she stops trying to fight the disease. As much as she will enjoy her remaining time after ceasing treatments, the disease will progress quickly and eventuall...
