PET 3218: Sports Psychology 

Spring 2021 Term 2 Course Project: Applying Sport Psychology Principles 

PURPOSE

The purpose of the assignment is to provide students the opportunity to design a research project meant to improve performance of an athletic team (or any group that fits personal career aspirations) by applying sports psychology principles studied in class. Students submit a narrated slide show.

OVERVIEW OF ASSIGNMENT

• Students originate, research, and design a team performance-improvement project



• Students complete the project independently (this is not a group project)



• The project should focus on an aspect of sport or exercise psychology of personal interest
  
  
  • Use text slide shows and course materials to help you decide on a focus/topic
  
  
• The project should be designed to enhance sport or exercise performance for an athletic team


• or a group of your choosing



• prior approval of instructor is required for all students so as to avoid overlap

• PROJECT TOPIC IS DUE BY SUNDAY APRIL 11



• PROJECT URL IS DUE BY SUNDAY APRIL 30 (note that you only submit a URL – no paper

 COMPONENTS OF ASSIGNMENT

• Develop a Slide Show with Narration using either Screencast-O-Matic or Adobe Spark (10-12 Minutes)
  
  
  • Develop 12-15 total slides including:
    
    
    
    • Title Slide with your name and relevant information
    
    
    
    • Slide that includes a short introduction
    
    
    
    • Slide that includes a short conclusion
    
    
    
    • References slide (minimum of four references are required)
    
    
    
    • Each content slide should make a main point to emphasize to audience
    
    
    
    • Each slide should include at least one image and text
    
    
    
    • Text on the actual slide viewers see should be kept to a minimum (you are explaining the info)
    
    
  
  
  • Narrate the slide show using Screencast-O-Matic or Adobe Spark
  
  
  
  • If using Screencast, upload the video to YouTube
  
  
  
  • Submit link to the video via the Course Ember website
  
  
  
  • MAKE SURE YOUR VIDEO URL IS ACCESSIBLE (on YouTube set to Unlisted; on Adobe share it publicly)
  
  

• Using imagery to improve basketball foul shooting



• Implementing relaxation techniques to reduce pre-competition anxiety



• Improving sportsmanship in a youth sport through role play



• Improving exercise adherence through a video motivational series



• Developing a program to improve mental toughness



• These are just a few … please be creative and explore an area of interest to you personally; this is not meant to be a prescriptive assignment; instead I want you to enjoy the chance to devise a potential project of personal interest
