Critiquing the Research Article
The chosen article for this specific paper is “Physical activity in pregnancy: a qualitative study of the beliefs of overweight and obese pregnant women” by Weir, et al., (2010). From an overall perspective, it can be stated that the article epitomizes effective information and overall it is a useful study. The title does accurately describe the article with its clear meaning. The abstract of the article is effectually designed which prominently represent article's key information including its background, methods used, results and conclusion. The purpose of the article has been visibly mentioned in the introduction. The problem statement has been significantly explained in the background. Similarly, the reason for conducting the research is also mentioned for the reader’s ease. Furthermore, the research question is informed in the introduction section and it is reliable with interest statement. The article successfully identified the qualitative “theoretical framework”, however, the description was mainly not explanatory. This research was a primary article with recent and up to date literature. The primary purpose of the review of past evidence is to demonstrate how recent studies are required and where it fits into the general research. The researchers primarily took a thorough review of literature in order to familiarize them with the knowledge. The information offered the readers with an overview of the current literature on the concerns being addressed. The article included a varied and good literature search on all the topics that were related. Thus, it supported the need for the study.
The research quality deserved the most attention as it used qualitative research design. The research design is appropriate for the study. The study population included 14 obese and overweight pregnant females. Qualitative studies usually utilize small samples, but it is a misconception to assume that numbers are not significant to ensure adequacy of sampling policies.
