Barriers to Implementation of Evidence-based Practice
1. What are some of the obstacles or barriers to implementing evidence-based practice (EBP) in nursing? Explain how at least one of the obstacles you have described could impact the implementation for your EBP project.
In the modern public health system, evidence-based practice is increasingly becoming popular because of the provision based on evidence. While evidence-based care is vital for provision of healthcare services and solutions, there are some barriers that threaten implementation. According to Khammarnia CITATION Kha151 \n \t \l 2057 (2015), some of the core barriers include lack of human resources and lack of interest which operate primarily at the individual level and less at the organization or industry level. In lack of human resources, nurses lack the time to read literature and computer knowledge proficiency inadequacies. These two factors are the notorious causes of the limitation in the number of human resources required to implement evidence-based practice.
The current evidence-based practice seeks to compare the efficacy of broad-spectrum antibiotics and supportive treatment in reducing lost working hours within a one-week treatment regime. In this project, lack of human resources will limit the number of individuals available to successfully produce outcomes that will be used to compare the two approaches. Thus, it will take longer than anticipated to implement the project because of this factor.
