Assessment of Project
The virtual ICU project was developed to provide support for on-care givers through support by remote specialists. Using a dedicated team to offer monitoring and assessment support, it enables intervention when required through the system. As a result, the virtual ICU provides a standardized operation model that gathers data and tracks the result over time to improve efficiency (Udeh et al., 2018). Furthermore, it improves teamwork by bringing together various specialists integrated into the institution to provide world-class services for patients in the ICU. Consequently, by leading this project, it provided the necessary experience required to learn and appreciate the role of technology in the health care system.
This leadership project aimed to develop the critical skills required to solve problems in a hospital setting. Problems that hinder effective service delivery can lead to huge consequences since human lives may be at risk. In an ICU, slight changes in a patient’s vitals may cause catastrophic results hence the need for better ways to manage patients. Therefore, with the goal being saving as many lives as possible, staff have to work extra hard with more scrutiny to ensure adherence to all protocols and procedures. While medical professionals naturally have a keen eye, they may also be prone to mistakes once in a while. Therefore, the ability to provide technological systems that can help such workers enhance their professional abilities and skills can go a long way to improving outcomes. As a result, innovation is required to ensure that health institutions can provide new solutions to existing problems. Therefore, the focus of my leadership project was honing my problems solving abilities, leading to the implementation of the virtual ICU project. The goal was to provide a project that would make work easier by using an interactive system within two months. This would enable quick integration and situational analysis of the ICU, after which the system could be fully integrated into the institution.
The AONE competencies I hoped to achieve included leadership, professionalism, and knowledge of the healthcare system. Through leadership, the lessons learned would set precedence for future planning processes. Additionally, by gaining foundational thinking skills that enable problem-solving. Additionally, setbacks and failures provide experiences critical in the medical profession. Without failure, one cannot adequately assess their performance on specific issues thus, they form a basis for improvement. Apart from that, professionalism ensures that I can take responsibility for all my actions in my professional career. More so, the upholding of ethics ensures that I can uphold the codes of conduct as envisioned in the health institution. In relation to knowledge of the healthcare system, knowledge of delivery models provides the basis for the development of new methods of patient care (American Organization of Nurse Executives, 2015). Furthermore, the use of evidence-based practice can also improve outcomes by using data to inform decision making. The above competencies formed the basis for my project implementation process, thus guided my actions throughout the implementation process.
My assessment of the health institution showed a lack of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) and Medical Doctors (MDs) during the coronavirus pandemic. The COVID-19 crisis also led to an increase in admissions to the ICU, leading to a shortage of staff to attend to the patients. As a result, the available health care providers were overwhelmed with work with high inflows. Additionally, the severity of the virus also made it dangerous for providers to work in the ICU and require extra protection to offer assistance adequately. Therefore, the pandemic provided the perfect opportunity to initiate the virtual ICU project to assist in providing remote assistance in instances where professionals were unavailable physically (Udeh et al., 2018). Being a Methodist, innovation forms a key part in the medical field to ensure effective and efficient service delivery. Furthermore, the organization was seeking innovation as a model of enhancing patient care, thus providing an appropriate setting for the project. Therefore, by implementing the project, services in the ICU were improved, thus ensuring patient's lives were saved.
The project initial...
