You are required to post at least one documented scholarly activity by the end of this course. In addition to this submission, you are required to be involved and contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives on a regular basis.

Overview
The scholarly activity I participated in was the quality improvement committee (QIC) at the organization I work for. A QIC is a group of people assigned the responsibility of managing and implementing quality improvement activities within a healthcare organization (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality(AHRQ), n.d.). They also investigate issues relating to the quality of care and evaluate clinical outcomes. Usually, the QIC reports directly to the chief executive officer (CEO) or the board members of an organization. These are the primary target market. In addition, healthcare providers such as nurses and physicians are also the target market for QIC because they can use the information from investigative/evaluation reports to improve the quality of care. The activity was beneficial to me because it allowed me to see how quality improvement programs are developed, implemented, and monitored.
Problem
A QIC addressed quality-related issues. Some of the problems that a QIC is designed to solve include:
* Patient safety incidents- These are issues that could have or did lead to patient harm (Carlfjord et al., 2018). Patient safety incidents not only threaten the safety of patients but also risk the reputation of the provider and the organization
* Healthcare providers’ complaints- These are issues raised by healthcare providers concerning the quality of care, such as insufficient training or high workload that could threaten patient safety.
* A nurse participating in QIC could learn about the various reporting mechanism to prevent patient harm from incidents and other issues.
