Introduction
Women all over the world are facing domestic violence. The vulnerable female populations include women who are disadvantaged due to social, physical, and psychological risks. In the present study, the issues related to women in the US who are affected by domestic violence have been discussed. The US health system can play an important role against violence. In some countries, guidelines or rules have been introduced to control violence but progress and execution of such rules are quite slow. Specifically in developing countries, behavioral hurdles and extensive systems are main obstacles. The aim of the study is to understand the psychosocial requirements of vulnerable female populations of the US and problems effecting culturally delivery of healthcare of women.
What is Domestic Violence
Domestic violence happens when a person in a familial relationship tries to achieve or maintain control over another with an extensive variety of abusive behavior. Domestic violence is not related to physical torture only. Abuse is learned conduct and it does not occur because of mental issues, anger other general excuses. Women in the US used to experience various forms of violence that include threats, abuse, or harassment. The social services and police response is minimal and most of the time women were left undefended.
Types of Domestic Violence
It has been observed that domestic violence against women can cause sudden death. Women who are living in a war wavering or crisis diseased areas are at higher risk to physically and mentally abusive. Such types of women are threatened within every type of sexual harassment, and intimidation. Other types of domestic violence that women used to face in the US involve enforced marriage, different types of physical abuse, genital mutilation, and sexual assault. According to the survey report of CLEEN foundation 2013, the number of cases regarding domestic violence has been increased alarmingly. The domestic violence in US community can be identified through observing various types of abuse such as isolation, economic abuse, sexual abuse, control, physical abuse, emotional abuse, and verbal abuse such as threats, etc.
Selection of Domestic Violence For Study
Domestic violence is a serious issue. It causes a noteworthy negative impact on people. In the United States, the main cause of damage to women is domestic violence. The use of physical violence in a relationship is an unlawful act and abusers can be detained and accused. The main reason to select domestic violence in the US population for the study is to highlight the issues that women are facing all over the world because of domestic violence. A huge number of women have to face such types of violence in the US throughout their lives. The main reason to focus on this issue is that domestic violence is cyclic means there is no end of such type of violence. The partner can be apologetic and sweet and next moment he can be abusive. To end such type of unstoppable violence, there is a need to aware of women of their rights. This study will be helpful to give information regarding domestic violence to the US community so the people will consider it seriously by taking action to stop such type of abuse.
Statistics Related to the US Population Regarding Domestic Violence
In the United States, around 1.3 million cases of domestic violence abuses occurred from 2006 to 2015. About half of the abuses have been reported to the police. The police retorted to the complaints and 39% of cases were filed. 19% cases were dropped because of fear of revenge. It has been observed that female harassment cases were 24% more than male victimization. 20% crimes were considered minor. The percentage of serious violence from intimate partners in US population was 55% and other relations that were victims of domestic violence were 54%. About 716,000 domestic violence victims were reported and 58200 victims remained unreported. Not every third domestic violence case in US was reported because of personal nature of the incident. In US, every fifth case was dropped because victims want to defend the offender. Statistics Regarding Simple Assaults and Serious Domestic Violence in the US
As per the victimization report of the US, there are two types of victim-offender relations. In one category, intimate partners such as spouse or girlfriend are involved in domestic violence while in the second category, other domestic relations are involved such as parents, siblings, children, etc. NCVS recorded 2.1 million serious domestic violence and 4.1 million simple assaults in US population. As per NCVS, female victims were more 38% as compared to male victims 12%.
