Accreditation enables organizations to be assessed based on pre-established standards (El-Jardali et al., 2008). The goal of accreditation is to improve the quality of services through different approaches. Accreditation processes are voluntary, government-sanctioned, or independent agency initiatives. Many developing countries today are still considering accreditation. Nonetheless, there is still little research on accreditation and its impact on the quality of care (El-Jardali et al., 2008). This paper aims to show that accreditation guarantees quality care.
Quality of care is essential and requires maintenance if hospitals are to reduce mortality rates. The World Health Organization recognizes that quality healthcare needs to be provided to families and patients if health is to be improved (Avia & Hariyati, 2019). But to achieve this, healthcare must be timely, safe, efficient, effective, people-centred, and fair. In their study, Avia and Hariyati (2019) sought to examine the impact hospital accreditation has on quality of care. The authors reviewed articles focusing on hospital accreditation its impact on the quality of care. The authors focused on articles published between 2008 and 2018 in Indonesian and English languages. Hence, they conducted comprehensive searches on CINAHL, ScienceDirect, and ProQuest (Avia & Hariyati, 2019).
The results of their study showed that accreditation had an impact on the quality of care through the quality of management, employee participation, and quality of results (Avia & Hariyati, 2019). The authors concluded that hospital accreditation improves the quality of healthcare in hospitals. From their study, the authors observed the greatest impact in hospitals accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI) (Avia & Hariyati, 2019).
