414 Reflection Paper (Health, Medicine, Nursing Essay)

Essay Instructions:

For this reflective discussion: Reflect upon two concepts that you learned in this course.

What are the concepts? What insight or ideas did you gain from learning each of these concepts? Were there aspects of the concepts that you would challenge?

What is the importance of these concepts to public health? How will you use this new wisdom in your current or future career?

Optional: Offer feedback on how the course and/or facilitation of the course can be improved.

Reflection is a mental process that challenges you to use critical thinking to examine the course information, analyze it carefully, make connections with previous knowledge and experience, and draw conclusions based on the resulting ideas. A well-cultivated critical thinker raises vital questions and problems, formulating them clearly and precisely; gathers and assesses relevant information, using abstract ideas to interpret it effectively; comes to well-reasoned conclusions and solutions, testing them against relevant criteria and standards; thinks open-mindedly within alternative systems of thought, recognizing and assessing, as need be, their assumptions, implications, and practical consequences; and communicates effectively with others in figuring out solutions to complex problems. (Paul & Elder, 2008)

In order to earn maximum credit, the comment should be more than your opinion, and more than a quick “off the top of your head” response. Be sure to support your statements, cite sources properly, cite within the text of your comments, and list your reference(s). The response must be a minimum of 250 words.

It allows him to have a better appreciation of the theories that he needed to succeed as well as how to use these in practical applications in his future practice. Accordingly, two of the most important concepts that I have learned in the discussion were; (1) cultural competence and (2) the Four C’s of the 21st Century. These two concepts were among the ones that left a great amount of impact on my perspective about my future nursing practice and I believe that learning them thoroughly and applying them should be my utmost priority.
Concepts Learning
As stated earlier, the two concepts that I have learned from the course were cultural competence and the ‘Four C’s of the 21st Century’. Based on my experience and my understanding of the discussion, I believe that these are inevitable because they do not only assure patient satisfaction during treatment but also because both of them help provide a ‘holistic’ approach to nursing.
On the one hand, cultural competence could allow a nursing professional to tailor-fit his treatment of any patient by being aware of the tradition, ideologies, or practices that a certain patient has. This is important since nurses must not only be able to provide treatment on the objective or medical aspect of an illness but also ensure that the patient’s well-being is taken into consideration (Ahn, 2017). One example of this were cases about the treatments of Native Americans. Although objective medical science could suggest the best course of treatment for any illness that they have, I realized that nursing practitioners must respe...
