Health organizations create patient health records in a documented format to form a legal health record (Sittig & Singh, 2011). The records are useful in the retrieval of patients’ information upon requests. Legal Health Record has various components that make it functional. One of the components is the identification of relevant regulations, laws, and set standards. The legal health record should also determine the records created in the course of business. Another component is the address of retention requirements and the consideration of the method of data production. Lastly, the legal health record should classify external records (Gillies, 2008).
