Summative Assessment: Integrated Global Awareness Lesson and Reflection
Essay Instructions:
Designing an integrated lesson may feel overwhelming, as it incorporates different subject areas that complement each other in one unit of study. For this reason, it is important to find the right connections between the subject areas so you can effectively address multiple standards in the lessons and incorporate related resources. To practice this important skill, you complete this two-part assignment in which you create an integrated lesson that develops children’s awareness of a global community.
Part 1: Lesson Plan and Instruction
Research programs or other resources that promote global connections and awareness for children to incorporate into your lesson.
Review the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards for Students and choose a technology standard that you plan to address in your unit.
Use the Integrated Lesson Plan Template to create an early childhood lesson plan that develops children’s awareness of a global community and incorporates the following:
Technology
Another subject area (e.g., math, science, literacy)
One of the programs and/or resources you researched
Teach your Integrated Global Awareness Lesson in an early childhood setting (Pre-K to age 8).
Document your time spent teaching your lesson in My Time Log.
Part 2: Teaching Experience Reflection
Write a 525- to 700-word reflection of your experience in which you:
Explain the main points of your lesson and how it supports developing children’s awareness of a global community.
Explain how you incorporated technology, another subject area, and 1 of the programs and/or resources you researched.
Analyze the successes and challenges from your teaching experience, including the changes for future teaching of the lesson.
Describe the assessment(s) for the lesson, including how they inform future teaching of the lesson.
Explain how you modified the lesson for exceptional learners or how it could be modified for future teaching of the lesson.
Explain the feedback you received from your cooperating teacher and how you will apply this to future instructional practice.

Part 1: Lesson Plan and Instruction
Researching Programs and Resources for Global Awareness
Some suggested websites to develop a lesson that fosters a global perspective. They enrich and develop child-friendly programs with global content and tell stories that will make children appreciate different modes of living. For instance, Kid World Citizen is a portal that comprises simple teaching aids, including craft, songs, and storytelling originating from different parts of the world, hence making it easy to comprehend concepts even in the early years of learning. This can lay the firm's cultural appreciation groundwork.
Selecting and Integrating an ISTE Standard
One helpful technology standard to implement here is the ISTE's "Global Collaborator" standard. This standard promotes students' awareness of knowledge and international relationships through technology. Introducing these concepts in early childhood prepares the child so they won't have to grow up thinking that technology is a way of keeping the world out, so they will be more open-minded and culturally sensitive. Applying a standard such as "Global Collaborator" leads the lesson toward teaching young learners how technology can bring people from different communities together.
Developing the Lesson Plan
The subject matter that students of Kiddie Academy Pre-K will be learning will be related to a ‘Day in the Life’ of children from a specific country. Key components include:
* Technology Integration: Some suggested apps to use in this lesson are Book Creator or Seesaw to share the cultures from different countries with the children. More of these tools help students understand stories by presenting the information in visual and auditory formats.

* Program/Resource: A resource like Kid World Citizen will s...
