Introduction
The growth and development of plants and animals involves the multiplication of cells. The process of cell multiplication enables the living things to move from one stage of life to the other in terms of either growth or introduction of other new living things. The development of plants and animals involves the multiplication of chromosomes these is characterized by two processes namely mitosis and meiosis (Sharma, 1985). This paper discusses the role of meiosis and mitosis and how they differ from each other. It discusses and gives roles of the cycle cell compared. It also gives comparison of the two, and finally gives the advantages of the meiosis upon a species.
Mitosis and meiosis play a crucial role in plant and growth .mitosis is where single cell divide its self to two identical cells,each containing same number of chromosomes and genetic content similar to that of mother cells. While meiosis is a cell division process that occurs in sexually producing organism that results into two nuclear divisions that is meiosis one and two,which occurs without chromosomal duplication.These results in production of four haploid gametes each have a pair of homologous chromosomes.
Mitosis play a various roles in the production of new cells organisms whereby it repairs damaged and worn out cells, replace dead cells,increases single cell organisms, helps preserve theidentity of parent genetics of the new replicated cells,It is responsible for maintenance of the diploid chromosomes. In single celled organisms it plays a crucial role increment of the cells.
