The Role of Teachers in Linguistically and Culturally Diverse Classrooms
For each question, draw from the readings assigned for class (theory) AND your experiences with or as a language learner (practice). Your responses will be evaluated on the accuracy of the response and how well you address key concepts related to the topic as presented in the readings, supplementary materials, and class discussions. Each question will be scored out of 10 points.
What do you believe to be the role/responsibility of teachers in providing a meaningful and effective education to students of linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds? Do you see a relationship between bi/multilingual education and social justice? Are there risks associated with taking a pro-social justice agenda in classroom activities? Identify ways in which you could (or already) implement the concepts learned in this class in your teaching and learning.

The Role/Responsibility of Teachers
Instructors are crucial to inclusive learning settings. According to Cummins' linguistic interdependence thesis, educators should use students' home language ability to help them learn a second language (Valadez, 2022). In my experience, professors who recognized my language diversity created a more conducive learning environment. According to Vygotsky's sociocultural theory, language development is culturally influenced. Teachers should use culturally relevant resources and practises in diverse classes. Diverse cultural elements helped me learn and understand languages.
