Reflection Paper Student’s Name Institutional Affiliation Course Instructor Due Date Reflection Paper My placement was at my job. I am a preschool teacher who teaches at Head Start. I am passionate about my work and I am always striving to make sure my learners have the best learning experience. The good thing about my placement is that I am familiar with the staff in my work. I have an assistant and 18 kids, some of whom are gifted, ELL, and others with speech delays. Based on my familiarity with the workplace and having an assistant, I made sure that everything was well and managed well. However, as part of management, I have to factor in the fact that my learners are different. For instance, those with speech and language delays struggle with grasping concepts because of their comprehension delay. Additionally, the mixed class age is something I have to consider since I have young learners ranging from 3 to 5 years, which means they all learn at different levels. As such it is my responsibility to ensure I make necessary modifications in my teaching methods as part of ensuring every learner’s needs are addressed accordingly. That being said, I will evaluate how I am performing at my placement by focusing on two observations, which are my lessons on the 14th and 27th of February. For my first lesson, which was on 14th February, I covered the topic of Valentine. Based on the students’ characteristics, it was evident that some had limited knowledge of English and Valentine’s customs. This understanding was crucial as it will form the basis for analyzing what went well and wrong with this lesson. The second observation was on 27th February, and the lesson covered Garret Morgan and traffic lights. In this lesson, I was to clarify the historical significance of Garrett Morgan's invention of the traffic light, ensure learners have a clear comprehension of the purpose and function of traffic lights, as well as address any uncertainties regarding traffic safety rules and pedestrian behaviors. As such, I was better positioned to understand what success was and the challenges in this observation. A close examination of the two observations showed that each had unique opportunities, which was apparent in how much I achieved at the end of everything. In the first observation, the most fascinating and successful aspects of teaching learners the concept of Valentine and its associated values included the use of catchy circle songs, which effectively engaged students and set a positive tone for the lesson. I also used picture prompts during storytelling since they were deemed helpful in students’ comprehension of Valentine’s Day values and concepts, particularly with learners with speech delays and EL...
