Mentor Collaboration in Literacy Assessment
Reading skills grow fast when teamwork exists. The Literacy Work Sample (LWS) mandated me to work with my mentor on a daily basis. We had common decisions concerning data. We referred to the evidence provided by learners who required support. LWS enabled me to become a professional in future as a literacy specialist. It taught me how to talk about student needs, plan instruction and create plans that could be used. LWS taught me about the significance of designed cycles of coaching, brief assessment, and selective scaffolding. The practice that I developed collaboratively aligns with systems that are advocated by literacy frameworks, mentor coaching, and policy guidance.
Collaboration to Design, Align, and Implement Instruction
My mentor and I developed teaching in distinct stages. We made observation notes to identify the trends in reading among the students. We observed the reactions that students had to the texts, time, sound distraction, and lengthy activities. We were put in mixed ability groups and each of these groups was assigned short comprehension objectives. Think aloud routines and visual organizers were selected as a result of active discussion. We put groups in classrooms in order to normalize support of literacy. After each reading session, we applied partner reading, guided questions and brief writing. My mentor assisted me in coordinating plans in other classrooms through mapping language of strategy to common literacy objectives and screening cycles in schools. There was a change of scaffolds in cases when learners demonstrated signs of progress after brief trials. We on-tasked previews of vocabulary inferences and we rehearsed to give lessons in small coaching loops, rather than long blocks. Collaboration enhanced my skills in creating training where the modeling, guided practice and evaluation transitioned in a seamless way.
Collaboration to Assess Instructional Practices and Interventions
LWS enhanced data feedback between my mentor and me. Formal meetings with progress evaluation were made monthly. We also had comprehension and writing check weekly to check micro-adjustments. I ensured confidentiality because the student information was kept in secured digital channels that were accepted in the district systems.
