In this case, I selected 1 Dependent variable (DV) and 3 Independent variables (IV). What is your research question? The research question is: To what extent do poverty levels, trust in the police, and material deprivation (such as a lack of cooking fuel) predict citizens’ trust in government? What is the null hypothesis for your question? The null hypothesis is that there is no statistically significant relationship between lived poverty, trust in police, frequency of going without cooking fuel, and the level of trust in government. What research design would align with this question? The best research design would be quantitative, correlational research. This would allow me to compare the IV’s predictive power on a continuous outcome (trust in government) (DV). What dependent variable was used and how is it measured? I selected “Trust in Government Index” as my DV. This would be measured using an Interval scale, which will produce a score that reflects increasing levels of trust.
