Diane Ravitch states that No, local school boards are not obsolete and that their presence is still significant in the life and education of children in several ways. One of its importance is that it allows for the involvement of children, parents, teachers and staff in the governing and running of the school, yielding in the motivation and success of children (Ravitch, 2010). Moreover, in a meeting held annually, parents, teachers, staff and even children are provided with a platform where they can discuss the problems, situations and other occurrences in the school and what is ought to be done to improve the education. Also, owing to the flexibility of the local school boards, all parties involved can freely discuss the mode of education and how to increase the service as well as monitor the adherence of the principle that ensures that the curriculum of the school is standard (Ravitch, 2010). Finally, as the largest group of public officials in the world, local school boards enhances collaboration among schools, hence preventing unhealthy competitions.
