Once you have scored a standardized assessment, you will have scores that will need to be explained to parents and the rest of the IEP team. It is very likely the parents will not understand what the scores mean for their child.

After obtaining test scores from standardized assessments, the data is analyzed and interpreted presented to the parents, students and other stakeholders. Most students and parents are conversant with percentage scores which provide very little information. However, the data can be presented using more comprehensive statistical methods such as the standard scores, percentile ranks and bell curve. Using this method would require an additional explanation to the parents.
The standard scores are obtained from the information extracted during the development of a test. It represents the degree to which a student's score deviates from tests mean scores. The standard score can be used to explain to a parent how far their child's score falls below or above the average rating.
