Learning has been one of the essential things for human beings. Learning makes individuals feel happier and uphold stronger cognitive functioning when they get older. For years, there have been several learning types and approaches. To learn effectively, it is essential to choose strategies that work for you and monitor them once in a while to know if you should attempt something new. Adult learners interested in returning to schools can benefit from a curriculum based on various principles that effectively solidify and execute the educational mission. During the process of learning, there are different adult learning principles and cognitive loads that influence the learning process.
The experimental principle in adult learning influences the learning process. It focuses on helping adults develop life experiences (Fairbanks, 2021). Learners are expected to participate physically in the learning setting and reflect on things that worked and those that did not work. Moreover, mentorship impacts adult learning as they can learn from outside mentors (Fairbanks, 2021). The principle allows the mentors and mentees to learn from each other. For instance, the mentees ask complex questions while mentors challenge the understating of the material. Thus, adults can develop life experiences and have the opportunity to learn from outside mentors.
Additionally, the principles allow adults to learn at their own pace and change their perspective of the world. Adults can know everything they need to learn and develop their goals via the self-directed principle. Afterward, they can track the materials, develop a strategy to improve their learning, and then self-evaluate (Fairbanks, 2021). Furthermore, the transformational principle is essential in enabling adult learners to have a different perspective on the world. Learning new information helps people to shift their worldviews and test their fixed concepts (Fairbanks, 2021). Therefore, adult learning theories enable people to learn at their own pace and change their worldviews.
