Reading Attitude Survey
Children are attracted to fun things. Things like following strict rules do not attract them. A child with a good attitude when it comes to getting educated at school is more likely to engage in academic activities, and children who are not will most likely not enjoy the environment in the school. Teachers and educators are working to counter this by assessing the child's interest in book reading, specifically as reading are one way children can engage in meaningful academic learning.
In this case, the Garfield survey created to assess a child's interest in reading books has been given to children, including Adam. The first half of the survey is focused on the recreational part of reading, where no academic influences are involved. Adam scored a point of 29/40 which is high, given that he is happy to read books on some occasions and situations. This shows that he is more likely to engage in books when pure fun is involved with reading a book. Children who view reading favorably are more likely to be interested in books. They look forward to reading and see it as a fun activity. Parents, teachers, and other caregivers who promote reading and foster a positive reading environment can help children acquire this positive attitude (Terada, 2021).
Moving forward to the academic part of the survey, where the question starts to change academically, Adam scores lower with a score of 25/40 points. The act of forcing them to do something they do not want to do leads to them being unfavorable about it, thus not interested. Adam answered the question "How do you feel reading in school?" and "How do you feel about reading your schoolbooks?" When read carefully, there is no academic connection to them because reading in school is fun, especially when done with friends, and schoolbooks for 5th grade are mostly combin...
