The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) provides the professional standards required in teaching the early childhood segment (Olmore, 2020). The need for professional early childhood educators is important for them to realize their vision for their student’s educational foundation and upbringing. As mentioned earlier, the core skill set of an early childhood educator is emotional intelligence, where adaptability and creativity are required to deal with children from birth to the age of eight.
According to the NAEYC, an early childhood educator should be aligned with five core competencies of professionalism (Olmore, 2020). The first competency is to utilize their knowledge of childhood development and learning to develop an inclusive and compassionate environment for learning. Then, the early childhood educator is meant to engage with the student’s families harmoniously to nurture connections. Another competency involves observation, documentation, and the assessment of each child’s development curve and learning (Bass, 2019). The fourth competency involves the skill of teaching for the enhancement of the student’s learning development. Finally, the early childhood educator is required to have an understanding of the content areas for the development of a suitable curriculum that can meet objectives for the students, their families, and the whole school ecosystem (Bass, 2019). Therefore, an early childhood educator should exhibit high moral and ethical standards to properly perform tasks and duties.

The first segment of the lesson plan is circle time, which begins with welcoming the students and getting to know all of them. The objective is to guarantee that every child feels valued, safe, and respected within the classroom. Ideally, the communication and reception between the teacher and the students and among the students themselves should improve (Li et al., 2020). The next part is the establishment of class rules and responsibilities. The objective behind the establishment of rules is to regulate the classroom and ensure that the student’s self-control is maintained by promoting good behavior and practices (Li et al., 2020). Informing the students about how they will do their homework and providing an overview of what will be learned in class is the next step. Here, the objective is to make the children gain an idea about the reason for their education and how it will be conducted.
Language and writing skills are the next subject area within the lesson plan. Bailey (2019) states that explicitness helps students in the early childhood phase to identify when academic language is utilized, thus increasing its value. The objectives are to gain a foundation regarding how to read, write, speak, and listen to words in the English language. Through the use of games and visual aids, the early childhood educator can foster the child’s natural eagerness and curiosity to learn new things (Bailey, 2019). Furthermore, these activities are useful as they create classroom social relationships, which are useful in developing a positive identity socially for the child (Bailey, 2019). The use of songs and books, as well as other instructional resources within the classroom, may also prove useful in learning language and mathematical numbers. Homework will be provided to the students to allow their families to bond over their children’s education.
The arts and crafts subject within the lesson plan is useful in shaping the children’s emotional and creative sides. The use of art can lead to the expression of emotions that may be difficult to put into words for children (Hart & Brando, 2018). Moreover, the children may get to appreciate images and reflect on their work and the work of others. Additionally, the sessions involved are usually playful and fun, helping the students acclimatize to the new surroundings and become more comfortable interacting with their peers and the teachers.
