Research is the study of materials and other sources to generate facts and new conclusions. Quality improvement is the approach to data collection which tends to improve the performance and practices in an organized manner. Notably, research and quality improvement are done systematically and may involve human participants. However, the two terms may also differ in other ways.
Research and quality improvement
Results obtained from quality improvement can be used in more than one activity and can be used for future references. This means that quality improvement is cyclical. Results from quality improvement cannot be used to generalize other populations since there's a lack of control of the outcome results, whether externally or internally (Dack & Roe, 2019). These results are used to generate immediate solutions to any upcoming issues as quality improvement projects are used for problem-solving and implementing evidence-based guidelines.
