Data Collection and Research Management Plan
Essay Instructions:
Based on first grade, please let me know if you have any questions.
Once a research focus is selected, the vision and target have been clarified, and research questions have been developed, a researcher begins to plan data collection and research management based on the research questions. Data collection takes on different formats, such as observation, surveys, samples, documents, multimedia materials, assessments, and interviews. This is the fourth step of the action research process. Data provides the researcher with the ability to investigate authentic behaviors, responses, and work samples in an attempt to respond to the research questions.
Having a plan on how you will collect or organize data and manage the research process is an essential component of action research and will help guide future topic assignments in this course.

Impact of Phonics-Based Instruction on First-Grade Students' Reading Fluency
Rationale
(One paragraph with citations explaining why the topic needs to be studied.)
Phonics-based instruction provides the foundational-building structure needed by young readers, especially in the first grade Fletcher et al., 2020). Early reading fluency is considered one of the most salient factors to help students bridge the gap from "learning to read" to "reading to learn." However, most first-grade students fail to achieve reading fluency because of unmet phonemic awareness and decoding skills. Indeed, studies have shown that a more phonics-based approach in the instructional method allows students to break down or decode words, thereby improving their reading fluency (Milankov et al., 2021). Phonics instruction also equips students with separate skills to understand the relationships among letters and sounds and to read unfamiliar words more accurately. This is important because they are students who have yet to develop reading fluency early in their years at school, which usually causes them problems in academia at higher grades. This study will investigate how phonics-based instruction affects reading fluency to provide concrete, practical information for teachers to make informed instructional modifications that would aid identified struggling readers. It hopes to add knowledge leading to enhanced overall literacy achievement and more effective teaching practices regarding early childhood education.
Problem Statement
(One sentence starting with “It is not known…”.)
It is not known how phonics-based instruction affects the reading fluency of first-grade students.
Research Questions
(Select one question from Topic 2.)
The key research question to guide the study shall be: To what extent does phonics-based instruction enhance reading fluency in first-grade students? This shall help in the determination of whether phonics instruction is an effective strategy in enhancing reading fluency of young learners, and the magnitude of its impact, compared to traditional methods.
Methodology and Design
This research will use a quasi-experiment design to compare the effectiveness of a phonics-based approach to reading fluency. This would i...
