Impact of media

The media plays a critical role in how the public perceives leadership. For instance, in the United States, the media has come under serious criticism for holding biased views concerning leadership. For years now, the Fox News network has held seriously conservative views and acted as a platform for Republican politics. The result has been an extreme polarization of political views in America. Those who support republicans always prefer a channel such as Fox because it shares and promotes their opinions. The public finds it hard to identify the real problems with American leadership because the media feeds them what they want. Using the information provided by the media, the public calls for action even though there are other underlying problems within the government.

Communication and Perception

The way leaders communicate determines the public’s perception of their leadership and organizational capabilities. This is the reason why leaders hire speech writers. Professional communication has to be based on extensive research, public mood, and other factors before dissemination. When a leader communicates in a way that shows a shallow understanding of the people’s problems, then the public is likely to view the leader as distant and lacking in understanding. However, when a leader, through his writers, does research and takes time to understand what affects his people, then he can communicate in a deep and understanding manner. The public will view him as capable, competent, and understanding.

A vibrant, multifaceted, and aggressive atmosphere characterizes the usage of media technologies in businesses in the age of information technology and modernization (DiStaso et al., 2011). Despite this, the community's communication and perception are determined by how leaders engage the public. As a result, firms have been subjected to individual behaviors such as openness, self-exposure, selfishness, and extreme greed, which have a detrimental impact on the institution's culture and behavior, especially in situations where a fundamental democratic ethos was absent (Ro & Chen, 2011...
