The organ transplant commercialization is a controversial topic that possesses different views from people. A reasonable number of people support the commercialization practice in which they have claims to back up their position since they state it as a probable solution of solving to the continual shortage of organs required for transplantation (Schicktanz & HÌ£efah, 2010). On the other hand, some people confidently believe that the sale of transplant organs is unethical and should not be allowed at any time. There is need to review on these arguments, formulating personal position and defending the moral judgment as well as determining a normative theory.
In the arguments found in discussions supporting the sale of organ transplant, there is inclusion of the fact that competent and autonomous adults possess the right of doing whatever they choose with their bodies. This is an argument that relates to the principle of reverence to autonomy, libertarianism or an idea of self-ownership. The sale of transplant organs is considered acceptable especially in occasions where it cannot harm third parties. Thus, unless there are other strong reasons of not doing so, the individuals who wish to sell their organ transplant should not be refrained. Furthermore, the team supporting this motion state that the sale helps in saving lives, where it partly alleviates the problem of transplant organ shortage. The transplant organ shortage is beyond dispute as numerous reports evidently records mass deaths that are taking place due to the long wait of patients. Some patients even die after they are eliminated from the waiting list because they were considered too ill for organ transplant (Schicktanz & HÌ£efah, 2010). Therefore, if there would be readily available organs awaiting patients, it would really help in saving many lives.
On the other hand, the group that discourages the commercialization of transplant organs says that it can be really risky and harmful to the parties involved. In the contemporary world, organ trafficking is getting involved in unacceptable and excessive stages of harm. There is also a possibility that the paid donors of organ may encounter health risks in future. The risks involved may be slight as they include those of chest, urine infections, and wound. The proposing group says that these health risks cannot be considered serious when compared to that of the recipient.
