Reflection on Doctoral Study The Emotional Toll of Leadership Among African American Female Principals Student Name Institution Instructor Date Reflection on Doctoral Study I have acquired the necessary competency pertinent to this course that will guide my doctoral capstone work. As noted in the following reflection, it is the aspects that I learned, which I will apply in my research, and also the reasons why I have decided to use a dissertation to undertake a project study. Research Design and Methodology The most significant thing regarding this course was to learn how to perform a research study that will meet my research questions and research method. It is now quite clear that I can choose a research design that would suit my topic well. In my dissertation, which will be qualitative research design; that is, a semi-structured interview, I will get detailed information about the African American female principals. This method can be most appropriate to study the emotional and institutional stress factors they face as it will allow me to get the understanding of their experienced life in abundant and descriptive manner (Patton, 2015). Literature Review Integration The other advantage of the course was the fact that it allowed me to become more skilled in terms of thorough literature review. I have also been able to think critically by reviewing the latest peer-reviewed literature and identifying gaps in the literature and justify the relevance of my study. To provide an example, in a study done by Viano et al. (2023), the researchers present the emotional overload experienced by Black female principals, which is why the research problem I am addressing.
