Collins et al. (2020) article address the underrepresentation of gifted Black girls in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) field subjects and the contributing factors. Access to gifted programs by gifted students experiences high disparities, especially for Black girls. In STEM fields, the intersectionality of Black girls makes them overlooked and not considered. The Black girls lucky to secure positions in STEM fields face stereotyping and isolation and often lack mentors and role models. There is an urgent need to address this discrimination by addressing the biases and stereotyping of Black girls in programs for gifted students. Additionally, stakeholders should invest in recruiting and retaining Black girls in STEM fields by providing mentorship opportunities and access to resources.
