Understanding Follower and Service Leadership

To properly lead, one must be able to both serve and follow. Both have opposing viewpoints, yet they are also similar in certain respects. This paper will look at how each one relates to leadership and what characteristics each type provides. The Army is a way of serving the country and its citizens. In the Army, it is critical to adhere to the rules to complete the task. Understanding is required to comprehend the parallels and differences between the two.
The ability to follow is measured in terms of followership. Effective followers have independence and the ability to think critically. A good follower will pay attention to the leader and take in what they have to say. They can get the knowledge they need to perform the work without being instructed to. They may convince others by being aware of the needs of everyone around them. A successful follower is capable of independent and critical thought.
They sense a need and act on it without being directed. Overall, the effective follower takes every attempt to demonstrate intellect, self-confidence, and enthusiasm for the work at hand. In many ways, a servant leader is comparable to an effective follower.
