The word "success" falls among humanity's most cherished ideals; However, for centuries, philosophers have dwelt on the topic to grasp the true meaning of success, but this term remains aloof beyond human cognition. One of the most elusive aspects of the notion of "success" lies in its varied interpretations made at various levels of social and domestic spheres. Besides, even at the individual level, interpretation, understanding, and explanation of success fluctuate kaleidoscopically as life moves through various phases. Logically, therefore, the fluidity of its comprehension undermines the efforts directed to hold a cognitive recognition of its social, philosophical, and logical dimensions. Therefore, after vigorous contemplation to grasp the essence of success, one can conclude that success is an illusion created by a person's specific social, cultural, and personal parameters.
The uniqueness attributed to the term success lies in innate ambiguity as it operates on many social and cultural domains where it is interpreted at various levels. For instance, in spirituality, success entails raising one's spiritual status by subjecting one's social life to extremely pious and ascetic practices. Moreover, in the domains of spirituality and theology, success operates at various levels of spirituality, ranging from fundamental to advanced levels, as per the degree of piety and abstinence a person holds. To explore another dimension of success in theology and spirituality, one can comprehend success as a person's smooth journey toward his eternal abode in heaven. Thus, one can understand that the meaning of the word success varies substantially based on various levels of spirituality.
Even more significant is that various forms of theology and spirituality exhibit contrasting opinions about material and spiritual success. For instance, material and worldly success may be interpreted as either a preferred or least desirable manifestation of success within theology and spirituality. As more comprehensive and practical religions, Christianity and Islam do not denigrate worldly success and focus on a person's material and spiritual growth. However, religions, such as Buddhism, centre around accomplishing spiritual uplift by subjecting the physical body to the utmost ascetic and austere discipline. Thus, one can easily understand that even upholders of spirituality and theology hold significantly different stances on the notion of success.
Within a person's domestic life, one encounters varied and volatile definitions of success from various family members and friends. In most cases, these different interpretations are the outcomes of varying theoretical and logical understandings of the term by different people. These varied understandings depend on a person's academic scholarship, social standing, and domestic and professional environments. For instance, a father is mainly concerned with providing maximum material comfort to his family. This understanding is based on his motives shaped by prerequisites of his specific social standing as the family's head. Moreover, mothers consider providing sound education and moral and social upbringing to their children an imperative criterion of success.
