Learning styles can be looked as the various approaches of learning. The styles are unique in the actual mode of learning. To start with, there is auditory learning. There are learners who are able to capture much through listening. They are able to learn best through discussions, lectures and listening to what others have to say. They have the ability to construe the original meanings through listening to pitch, tone and speed of voice. They may find it difficult to understand written information and may prefer it spoken.
There are visual learners who prefer visual demonstrations to get the underlying information. For instance, they require seeing the body language and facial expression of the teacher to understand the teacher`s lesson and may therefore prefer to sit at the front of the lecture hall and hence avoid visual obstructions. The teacher may therefore help such students understand better by using diagrams, charts, flipcharts, videos as well as illustrated textbooks.
The third approach of learning is the kinesthetic learning. These kinds of students learn best through practical approach. They are able to learn through moving, doing and touching. To them, sitting still for long spells of time is difficult and will become distracted by their urge for activity and exploration. They are always willing to try out something new and are messy in habits and surroundings. There are also tactile learners who are able to literally translate events and phenomena. They are artistic in nature with ability to create impressions of what they understand.
