Introduction
Charlotte’s is a children’s novel that was written by E.B. White and was first published by Hamish Hamilton in 1952. It is a perfect children’s novel the 1970 award by Laura Ingalls Wilder Award. It is a book that was written with a great mixture of excitement, seriousness, and comedy. Despite the fact the book was written more than fifty years ago and it is still good book for children and its major themes of hope and friendship is still relevant today (White, 1999). The other good story for children is The Happy Prince which was written in the year 1888 by an Irish-born English novelist, poet and Playwright; the author is called Oscar Wilde. The Happy Prince a novel that is based on the fairy tale that is talking about a swallow who falls out of love with a reed, the later fall in love with the stature of the Happy Prince (Wilde, 2009).

Charlotte’s Web
The story is about Wilbur that is described as runty yard pig who escapes death after being saved by Mr. Arable’s daughter who is eight years old. The author has used different action pattern with characters being represented differently. The author of Charlotte’s web has used both the elements of fiction of story to increase the readers’ enjoyment and understanding of literary text. There are different styles by which characters have been developed by the author. There are different patterns by a character can be developed ; for instance a character can be developed as minor, main, primary and / or secondary. In the novel, the author has developed characters by actions (White, 1999).
Patterns of Action
The author has used different patterns of action in the novel. For instance the author has used foreshadowing as a pattern of action in the novel and this pattern will be noticed in several instances throughout the book. Foreshadowing is a style of planting clues to show the outcome of the story; though, the readers might not be able to identify this pattern when reading. However, there are instances when the reader may be able to notice them subconsciously and may tend to use it to describe their inferences as feelings or guesses. In Charlotte’s web; when the reader first meet Charlotte in the book, the readers are told that the she eats living things and the friendship appears to be questionable. But later in the story White who is the author adds that “Charlotte is a good hearted and was ready to prove loyalty to the very end.” That can be described as prophetic statement. The instance of clue in the story is at the moment when Charlotte is assuring Wilbur, after he has learnt of the slaughter when he said “I am going to save you.” (White, 1999).
