In the chapter “The Erotics and Politics of Self-making” by Jafari S. Allen, the author highlights two modes of agency employed by Afro-Cubans to fight the marginalization of blacks and sexual minorities amidst the widespread revolutionary socialist project of equality and dignity for all. The two modes of agency explored in the chapter are spontaneous quotidian action to create autonomous spaces that make life easier and organized and intentional resistance.
