Paper in Responsible Self-Expression
Communication ethics can be described as the good morals present in any form of human communication, which includes digital communication, interpersonal communication, and mass-mediated communication (Dick, 1997). On the other hand, ethical communication involves truthfulness, honesty, and respect. Communication ethics are significant since they enhance trust between two or more parties, credibility and improves decision making processes in firms. Moreover, ethics clearly states what is right and wrong, which prevents conflicts between parties (NCA Credo, 2011). This creates good relationships between individuals working in different departments of a company. This paper will discuss three ethical values that I appreciate from the NCA Credo. They include freedom of expression, honesty, and respect.
My first principle is freedom of expression. Freedom of speech in communication ethics can be described as the act of allowing people to give their thoughts and opinions in a given society. This freedom helps them in making informed and responsible decisions (Bertrand, 2018). The value also accepts viewpoints from all directions, whether or not the authority accepts them. This enhances the democracy of people in society (Lukas, 2014). This value prevents people from listening from one speaker or source of information since they can easily be controlled or manipulated. Hearing from different sources of information enables people to get fully informed on a subject (Bowen, 2007). Moreover, listening from diverse sources of data means that individuals are willing to hear from rebellious voices, which enhances unity.
Secondly, freedom of expression allows people to give their views and opinions. Different organizations and states support this value (Lukas, 2014). For instance, the US is an example of many countries in the world that have given journalists and other media personnel the freedom to criticize the government and other public institutions without the fear of being prosecuted. This has played a significant role in the promotion of democracy in society (NCA Credo, 2011). Moreover, it has reduced corruption cases and mismanagement of public funds. In some countries, journalists and media workers are intimated (NCA Credo, 2011). In the same spirit of freedom of expression, I have the freedom to suggest that the government and the Supreme Court have the responsibility to protect the right of freedom of speech so that they can get information on various injustices or crimes. Some issues, such as corruption and bribery, contribute to the slow economic growth of a country.
Freedom of expression is fundamental since it allows people to speak their minds freely. In the future, I aspire not to let anyone discriminate against my ideas regardless of my gender, age, or race. On the other hand, I also intend to avoid underpinning people's ideas but instead give them room to speak their views and opinions. Moreover, I also plan to fulfill the value of honesty in the organization that I will be working for. This because goodness leads to better performance of the organization and strengthens the relationships between parties. Truthfulness creates a better environment for communication and a smooth working place.
Additionally, I intend to respect people's ideas, knowledge, and skills in all areas. I plan to fulfill these by avoiding judgments and poor perceptions. I will also create a conducive environment for people to give out their content and give the right response.
My second principle is honesty. Honesty in communication ethics can be described as the act of giving out truthful information with no exaggeration, omission of facts, or giving of distorted information. Individuals such as...
