In the U.S., the media plays an instrumental role in enlightening the public about the activities in the judicial system, especially through entertainment television. The public is supposed to probe its own perception of the justice system in order to get a glimpse of the right picture as per the expectations of the different segments of the society in the country. One such case was that of the State vs. Keith Phoenix. Phoenix, who together with another accomplice Hakim Scott, killed a 31 old Jose Sucuzhanay (Barron, & Boryga, 2010). The way the media presented the case was clear that the two attacked the deceased on claims of being gay and at the same time being an immigrant.
