A couple of years ago, you wouldn’t have imagined social media being used to promote learning in the classroom. Right now, not only has social media become pervasive among students, but educators have also had a change of heart as they are embracing it because of its ability to enhance learning (van der Ende, 2020). Perhaps, it’s time policymakers in the education sector encourage social media use because of its value in boosting student collaboration and participation (Hopkins, 2020). A lot of class activities involve group assignments, and social media groups can easily facilitate that. Educators can lecture via Facebook live, post assignments in a social media group, and even engage students via comments and reactions (Davis, 2018). Social media can be beneficial to all levels of education, and educators should not waste time but tap into the immense capabilities it stands to offer.
Can you imagine using Twitter in class during learning? According to Brien (2012), Twitter can be used to keep students engaged and understand the things they think about during lectures.
