PESTLE Analysis
According to Vardopoulos (2021), PESTLE analysis is a strategic tool that companies widely use for macro-environmental scanning. The framework allows organizations to explore political, economic, social, technological, legal, and environmental factors influencing business strategies in the long run. The framework application for ‘In-House Microbrewery (IHMB)’ is as follows (See Figure 1 in the Appendices):
* Political: The shifts in geopolitical relationships between the US, China, and the European Union (EU) trigger trade wars in the beer industry. The US has minimal opportunities for imports and exports, with China to prosper (Arundel, 2025).
* Economic: According to Conway (2023), 49% of American households with +$100k annual income contribute to the industry’s revenue. The proportion denotes that the economic factor favors beer crafters in the long run.
* Social: Conway (2023a) found that 37% of the market share is denoted by buyers aged between 21 and 34. Statistics denote consumers prefer unique beer flavors and new brands for experience (Statista, 2024). The socioeconomic factors indicate that IHMB could target the young population to establish a robust brand image.
* Technological: The technological factor is weak since most buyers prefer offline channels to purchase beer (Statista, 2024).
* Legal: Employees in the beer industry should maintain trade secrets as intellectual property rights. The legislation prohibits employees from exposing recipes, marketing ideas, and growth plans (Kaider, 2023). IHMB could enjoy protected trade under the legal guidelines.
* Environmental: Environmental stewardship is mandatory for beer manufacturers to attract customers and enjoy financial leverage. Craft beer manufacturers must use organic ingredients, sustainable packaging, and green practices to distribute products as an industry benchmark (Rahman et al., 2023). IHMB requires strategizing the value chain roadmap to integrate sustainable practices.
SWOT Analysis
According to Vardopoulos et al. (2021), SWOT analysis examines the internal (strengths and weaknesses) and external (opportunities and threats) factors that influence business decisions. Unlike PESTLE, SWOT analysis evaluates the impact of internal factors on strategic decisions. The framework application for IHMB is as follows (See Figure 2 in the Appendices):
* Strengths: IHMB has strict and diverse key performance indicators (KPIs) that ensure operational, product, and marketing excellence. The company has eight KPIs that balance internal and external decisions to capture market share. Besides, IHMB deploys a robust marketing budget for three fiscal periods that includes ‘Above-the-Line (ATL)’ and ...
