It is intended to identify the internal and external factors that are favorable and unfavorable to achieving the objectives of the company.
Strengths and Weakness are internally-related, while Opportunities and Threats commonly focus on external, environmental factors. By combining both internal & external points of view, as well as the helpful and harmful factors impacting the company, a SWOT analysis provides a complete, and holistic snapshot of a company’s current state.
A SWOT analysis may be used in any decision-making situation when a desired end-state or objective is defined. SWOT analysis may be used in creating a recommendation when a company is considering launching a new product, entering a new market, acquiring a new business, long term planning, competitive analysis.
