Restating the problem: My problem is the lack of women in male-dominated roles or non-traditional work positions. I work in a male-dominated position and I witness first-hand the lack of women in the union represented positions and management roles. This can be due to a lack of women's support or family traditions discouraging them from applying. Potential Solution #1: Re-evaluate job descriptions/qualifications making it clearer what they do now and how it is more obtainable (reducing some of the physical restrictions that are no longer required). Potential Solution #2: Offer more appliance clinics or hands-on workshops to provide one-on-one support and insight into what the job requires Choice #1 or #2 Impact More women will realize they meet the job requirements to apply. Women will feel more comfortable and confident in applying. #1 will have a higher impact because the job profile is close to permanent change and workshops can only be provided for a limited time. Feasibility The union-represented roles will need to be negotiated with the Union which will take time and money to discuss. The clinics will be done on non-company time (volunteer work) therefore and conducted by management. #2 – Management taking on volunteer work and responsibility can be easily approved and implemented.
