Ethical decision dilemma for my organization:
"To complete our jobs the Organization has to send its pilots to school and get typed in the Citation Encore and the Gulfstream 550 airplanes. The cost to send pilots to Flight Safety international is very expensive and after completing the type rating opens up a whole new world and a lot of opportunities outside of our organization to make two times the amount of money that we currently make flying for corporate flight departments and major airlines. Pilots in my organization are currently sought out by recruiters of these corporate flight departments and airlines and are offered jobs that offer great benefit packages and pay to leave our current organization. Our organizational dilemma is how do we keep our pilots loyal to our organization when there is so much pressure from outside our organization to leave, if our pilots leave our organization it makes it difficult to schedule flights for our customers as it normally takes six months to get a pilot mission ready as well as thousands of dollars of training costs."

The nature of ethical decision-making is recognition, analysis and resolution. Most of the time we don’t make a decision because it’s ethical, but rather based on business; ethical decisions happen “after the fact.” After completing this activity, you will be better prepared to make those tough ethical decisions at work.

This paper seeks to establish the manner in which an organization can manage social responsibility and ethical issues within a diverse work environment, thus focusing on the element of diversity within an organizations workforce and how ethical issues and social responsibility impacts organizations. Consequently, the paper will provide details of some of the dilemmas that face an organization chosen and develop a detailed recommendation that would be used in addressing these ethical dilemmas.
Section 2: Description of the Issue
Managers in different organizations are bound to face ethical challenges every day in their work operations. There are seldom decisions that are faced in not having an ethical dimension to address these issues. Additionally, in facing these ethical issues in all aspects of their decision making, they are bound to confront these issues as they conduct their leadership roles. Whether these managers are engaged in the process of organizing, planning, communicating, and motivating, or other management roles, they significantly face ethical issues that include fairness and unfairness, right and wrong, justice or the lack of it into their actions, decisions, and behaviors.
This clearly indicates that the level of management under consideration that includes the top, middle, or low does not matter since managers at all levels face ethical situations. In this case study, the organization is determined to send its pilots to school with the aim of getting them typed in the Citation Encore and the Gulfstream 550 airplanes. In consideration of this organization, it is essential to note that the organizations strengths remains in its personnel who engage in promoting the organization for their efforts in promoting the service excellence of the company. Additionally, the organizations management is run by a team of talented management team that plays a significant role in the planning, execution and control of its actions in order to be the best brand in the market (Bjerregaard & Lauring, 2013).
In as much as the management team of this organization is apt in meeting their roles, they are faced with challenges in ethical dilemmas, especially in maintaining the loyalty of their personnel who are trained by the organization.
However, one of the challenges and weaknesses the organization faces in achieving its social responsibility goal remains in the related costs of sending their pilots to Flight Safety International which are consequently expensive. In lieu with this, the organization faces ethical challenges in the event they consider training their pilots since they are exposed to opportunities and openings by flying in corporate flight departments in major airlines, an aspect that enables them to earn twice as much as they are paid (Bjerregaard & Lauring, 2013). This clearly establishes that the management team of the organization has over the past failed to see the need of having ethics policies and codes that define the manner in which the organization manages its functions. In contrary to this, the management team of this organization face complex and diverse ethical issues as they try to arrive at decisions in regards to the training, hiring, compensation, promotion of their personnel within the organization. As a result of this, the managers are currently facing a conflict since working with personnel’s from different backgrounds who are likely to have different ranks in various values and decisions.
As a result of the opportunities presented in the market that has seen a growing demand in trained personnel, an intense competition has erupted in the market. This has seen pilots sought out after by recruiters in these airlines and corporate flight departments who offer them job opportunities that come with great pay packages, thus making them leave the organization. In this case, the organization is currently facing an ethical dilemma on how to keep their pilots when there are no pressures from the market of leaving the organization (Bookter, 2012). This is attributed to the fact that if the organizations leave the organization, the company is likely to face challenges in scheduling their flights for their customers since this process normally takes a period of six months in getting the mission of a pilot ready as well as a lot of funds in training the pilots. In this case, the organization is negatively impacted since it spends a considerable amount of money in training its personnel as its corporate social responsibility approach and looses these personnel’s to other airline companies that offer better pay packages to the personnel’s who are equipped in meeting their organizational goals.
