Qualitative Reasoning
Qualitative reasoning is often linked to mathematical analysis and intended to solve problems. This is true but it mainly involves the weighing of the right or wrong in a situation before making an accurate judgment. It is used in normal day to day activities for logic and also rhetorical (in the sense that the situation seems trivial and almost without an alternative) situations. QR helps to appreciate the context of a situation, interpret it, evaluate various options, demystify the negatives that come with it, take up the challenge and consequence of the decision made and eventually to come to a comprehensive and optimal conclusion (Damásio, 1999).
Ellis defines it as a way in which students are assisted in preventing the students from falling out of higher institutes of education based on irrelevancies. QR is compulsory and it involves literacy methods with give real life situations and questions the students on ways of resolving the problem. Depending on the course of study, authenticity is used in its numerical form in the problem. Applicability the decision made should be suitable for the case at hand. Comprehension of the various issues helps in future analysis. Practicality is dealing with the reasonable expectations of the outcome of a particular situation.
QR is used in various fields of health and medicine to analyze the information critically as at times it could mean a matter of life and death for a patient. Persons who familiarize with QR are known as Quantitative literates as the professional skill requires them be aware of various options accordingly.
