The purpose of this paper is to complete the process design matrix. An executive summary is written that identifies the appropriate design approaches for a selected design product and service. The one service that I am familiar with is banking service, and the one product that I am familiar with is cell phone. The key design approaches for a banking service comprise production line; service and personal attention. (i) Production Line Approach: this approach basically focuses on effectual production of banking services such as depositing cash, cash withdrawals and checking of account balances. The bank will control production of these banking services and ensure that there is effectual delivery of banking services to the customers (Verweire & Berghe, 2009). (ii) Self-service approach: according to this approach, the effectiveness of the service process could be improved when clients are involved in the production of services. For banking services, this is achieved through the use of bank automated teller machines (ATMs) where the burden is shifted to the customer. This design approach is imperative in the banking sector since it serves to reduce the time of service delivery. It is noteworthy that because of this design approach, the bank can focus on delivering efficient and effective financial services to its customers in a shorter time period. (iii) Personal Attention Approach: this approach, in essence highlights on creating a relationship between customers and the individual sales person to ensure effective customer services. In general, the personal attention approach will help the bank in developing potent relationship with its clientele and build customer loyalty (Verweire & Berghe, 2009).
With regards to cell phone product, the relevant design approaches for this product include job shop and batch. (i) Job shop approach is suitable to this process.
