Organizational training is an organized effort by the company to provide learning among employees with an aim to improve their skills, knowledge and their behavior. Most companies carry out training in order to have a competitive advantage over others. Currently, there exists two major methods of organizational training used namely the traditional and the modern (multimedia) methods of training.
In the traditional method of training, we have specialized instructors who lead discussions and presentations to the trainees by offering lecturer on whiteboards or making power point presentations using projectors. These methods of training usually emphasize on the need for the basic and advanced skills useful for better performance of the job. Today, experts agree that most companies require the employees to not only acquire the knowledge and skills through training, but also share it with the other employees and customers for improved business results. On the other hand, the modern (multimedia) methods are computer based and employ the use of technology to provide training solutions. They vary right from the simplest formats like text only programs to highly sophisticated programs like computer simulations (Noe, 2010).
Over the years, the success of traditional methods has been attributed to a number of advantages that include its high level of efficiency. The tutor presents a large volume of material to a larger group of employees at the same time. Apart from that, the method is cost effective especially in cases where the instructors are not outsourced. Through this method, the employees have a personal relationship with the instructor, and this improves the level of interaction between the employees and their instructors (Noe, 2010).
