You've just been put in charge of the company's first international expansion, opening a store in Shanghai, China. This will be a short-term, small-scale change for the organization. After one year, you will be expected to begin opening additional stores in Brazil, Russia, India, and China (also known as the B.R.I.C. countries). This will be a long-term, large-scale change.
Using the models mentioned below, which change model you would follow for the short-term change and which you would follow for the long-term change. Provide rationale for your decision and discuss the effects that these changes would have on the employees, managers, and executives within the organization.

One of the most widely used planning methods is Kotter's (1996, 1998) eight-stage change process as shown in Figure 2.8. This approach is used as a planning diagnostic and as an implementation method.

Change is a common phenomenon in organizations ion an effort to expand and to acquire competitive advantage. For an organization to stay ahead of competition there is need to take new initiative with project based working and adaption of new technology. These are the primary factors that drive it toward change whet her small or overall change in the organization system. It is common for organization to have the feeling of intimidation brought forth by the scale of the challenge of change, as the need for change is present, but the technique of delivering the felt change becomes difficult. Many models have been adapted which aimed at aiding organization through the process of change to new initiatives beneficial to its operations (Kotter, 1995). Kotter’s 8-step change process and Appreciative inquiry 4 dimension models are the commonly employed to enhance an organization to achieve its objectives of change. These models play an important role to enhance both short term and long term changes within an organization. This models when employed properly provide a rationale to organizational change.
The XYZ inc. initiative for change has to adapt these two models to achieve its short term and long term objectives. Kotter’s 8-stepmodel is composed of planning diagnostic and implementation methods to be employed when anticipating change in an organization. XYZ inc. needs to adapt Kotter’s 8-step model while establishing their short term retail chain in china. With respect to Kotter’s model, XYZ inc. has realized a need to establish new stores in china, and thus a need to analyze the marketplace and completion in this area. XYZ has to analyze threats, opportunities and request support from stakeholders. The firm needs to form powerful coalitions who have strong leadership to manage the perceived change (Coutts, 2001). The people who lead change are influential in the organization working as a team to ensure that all levels of operation are represented.
Creation of vision is a major aspect as a d rive for change by enhancing the idea of change to be grasped easily. This will enable everyone t o be ready to embrace change because central values have been determined. Vision enables the coalition team to create and execute the change strategy. The vision of XYZ has to be communicated as the message will increase the strength of competition in the firm, as it demonstrates the behavior model required to enhance change. The anxiety of people is addressed and all aspect of the operation is tied to the vision.
Obstacles which can hinder the expansion of XYZ have to be of concern to enable everyone in the firm to change. Leaders whose aim is change are selected to ensure the firm structure is in line with change while taking action to eliminate barriers.
