Business processes have made immense growth to our lifestyles. It has played an important role in bringing people from different and diverse cultures to come together and carry out business transactions. Business has had profound effect on the global economy and opened up new channels for development in various capacities. However, business processes have had various effects on the environment which in turn has affected the way we live, that is, our lifestyles and health.
Impact of business on the environment
Business processes have led to an increase in consumption of manufactured products which have had a great impact on the environment (Morris, 1997). This is because an increase in consumption of products translates to an increase in production of goods. At the end of the day these business processes have an impact on the environment. Manufacturing of the products entails transportation of raw materials from the source to the manufacturing plants. The transportation involves vehicles which use fuel. The amounts of fuel that are used to transport the raw materials to the manufacturing plants and the finished products to the customers have led to the pollution of the environment. Greenhouse effect is one of the major concerns that have been highlighted. The gases that are emitted to the environment from fuel consumption cause the depletion of the ozone layer and this has led to the increase in the greenhouse effect. Recent oil spills and damping of industrial waste in the oceans have also negatively affected the environment. Harmful chemicals that have deposited in the water bodies have interfered with the underwater organism`s natural habitat and killed them.
