It is the responsibility of the top management to insert moral force in an organization. Moreover, it is their responsibility to draw a distinction line between loyalty to the organization and actions against the law and values of the society. This line can be blurred in case of a heat in the company when the employees suspect that their rights are being violated. Consequently, organizational leaders expect loyalty from the juniors against business competitors but not against the rules and regulations that govern their operations or the society as a whole. Any disservice to customers jeopardizes the organization’s reputation. Therefore, the leaders should not accept any excuses in the form of organizational loyalty if they taint its good name. Most importantly, they must emphasize that those employees who will be found guilty of harming other people will not be accommodated in the organization.
For several years leadership has been a dynamic concept to me. My involvement in the ministry has made me encounter several people who have influenced the new concept of leadership in me. Due to their influence in my life, my paradigm about how to be a good business leader has changed. My whole paradigm is summed up by “Leadership is not a position. To my knowledge, a promotion never made anyone a leader. Leadership is a fiduciary calling” (Dickens, 2008). At first I thought that one must have a position in an organization to be a leader. Before I became a leader in my organization, most leaders used to say that anyone can lead from any position, but I used to scoff at that notion since the people who used to say that were the leaders only.
Much has been said about Christian leaders. Much of it has been on theological, expositional and communication skills. However, the modern Christian leaders are being confused with the modern concept of celebrity. In some occasions, leaders have been seen or heard using certain skills that pass the role model who should be in focus- Jesus. In order to remain a Christian leader and maintain loyalty in the business world, I must practice the servant leadership model that was modelled by Jesus to develop His disciples into great leaders of His Holy Church.
