Individual Strengths and Problem Solving Techniques
I have had the privilege of working at a fast food restaurant as a manager which is enough to know that it is not an easy task as many may make it sound. It requires a lot of patience and the ability to work in a team together with the challenges that one faces in the terms of problem solving skills as well as the making proper decisions for the team (Huitt, 1992). A team can be defined as a group of individuals that come together to achieve a given task that a single person cannot attain if alone. Thus the saying that goes, “no man is an island”. Working in a team makes persons be in a position to pick up a lesson or two from the other members which can be very beneficial to them in a future setting and one is able to work with others and appreciate new ideas.
The restaurant is always a beehive of activity and it being a hotspot for the college students due to its figure licking foods and uptown look as well as affordability, it is more often than not a beehive of activity. We are a staff of about 15 persons which we at times fine is quite a small number compared to the number of customers that we have. This means that every hand is useful in the running of the business and my role is both of the manger as well as a waiter. The appreciation of the diversification of the ideologies by various personalities has assisted in the making the business a success (Dealtry, 1992). We had a target for each day most of which we hit and even made more profit than anticipated and this would be pushed to the salaries as a way of motivating the workers. Putting the critical thinking skill, organization skills and knowledge base in use was a big booster to avoid a collapse from fatigue or exhaustion.
This was done by having proper shifts for all the workers to avoid overworking some than others (Ferrell & Hartline 2010). I used the Porter’s Five Forces to cope with the high targets set and to keep our customers always smiling, the customer is always right and noting that we are there because of them is one way to achieve goods benefits and gives knowledge of their competitors and is good for planning. Competition is good but to stay on top of the pile one needs to know how best to handle things. One has to put several things into:
Supplier power: it is the manner in which one is able to determine the ease of the suppliers which is mostly determined by the unique services and products. This way we chose the one with the best products at a reasonable price to ensure that we also make the best of it.
Buyer power: the need to satisfy the buyers doing an analysis of whether the ease and risks that are involved with the changing to another business. Finding the best way of appreciating the special group of college students who would then by word of mouth advertise us to their peers keeping the customers coming.
