The healthcare sector focuses on providing services to people to strengthen their quality of health. As a health professional, the three pillars (servant leadership, ethics, and entrepreneurism) are essential towards fostering professionalism and proficiency towards future business practices. Implementing the three pillars within the healthcare sector poses a unique outlook on business practice within the field. Organizations still have a long way to go in the adoption of servant leadership. After completing my master's degree, my goal is to seek a hospital administrator position and focus on implementing servant leadership in our organization. In the pages that follow, I will analyze how the three pillars (entrepreneurism, ethics, and servant leadership) will be integrated into my prospective business practices and how I will utilize the three pillars to contribute to the greater social good within my community.
Entrepreneurism Pillar
Entrepreneurism is often defined as the capacity to establish new businesses by pursuing new ideas, visions, or concepts. The United States healthcare environment is volatile, competitive, and complex. Over the years, managed healthcare has dominated the United States, presenting the need to develop strategies to cut costs and enhance quality, which is essential for organizational survival (Lurie, 2020). There has been an essential entrepreneurial response to the shifts in the social and scientific foundations of delivery services in healthcare. However, a developing quota of the economic growth compelling healthcare sector advancement is endangered more by utilizing the financial theories that are suboptimal for the business in healthcare (Lurie, 2020). Applying entrepreneurism in healthcare entails deploying financial assets to which will promote the provision of high-quality services. Adopting this pillar in prospective business practice will facilitate the development and advancement of new and existing ventures within the healthcare setting to improve the quality of services and accessibility, which the community will primarily benefit from. Therefore, entrepreneurism is the ultimate solution to ensure that all persons can obtain healthcare services without suffering financial hardship when paying for them.
Ethics Pillar
Healthcare ethics entails reviewing a particular problem, usually a clinical issue, and applying values, facts, and logic to agree on the best decision to implement. Healthcare ethics does not only entail decisions concerning patients but also decisions regarding healthcare administration. Therefore business ethics in healthcare suggests aspects that can assist healthcare administrators in attaining the highest ethical standards as they conduct their daily roles as healthcare providers, employers, and community service organizations. The moral backbone of healthcare professionals may be tested in cases where their professional roles expose them to personal risks. Healthcare professionals should focus on professional factors such as assuming the same risk as colleagues, the outcome of failing to offer their medical services, promoting community well-being, and meeting public expectations and trust (Iserson, 2020).
