It a logistic service company which carries out its operations in the line of providing courier services (Ciscel and Smith, 2005). The company provides these services to different types of customers, and its business is also conducted through the internet. The company’s main offices are situated in Canada and America. The company also has other offices across various parts of the world. The corporation has several companies that provide various services to its various customers. The company branded itself as "FedEx" that is an abbreviation meaning Federal Express. The corporation has different operating companies such as FedEx Office, FedEx Ground, FedEx trade Network, FedEx Express, and FedEx SmartPost.
Recently, FedEx Corporation realigned its operation process as a way of responding to the market shifts. Recent industry changes negatively affected normal operation of the company. As a result, some customers now prefer non-premium delivery (slower-moving) services in the soft global economy. The company international airfreight business faced a decline by 3% in the firm’s fourth quarter. The economic situations have become more challenging, and customers do not prefer paying for a quick response, and therefore related companies are less willing to make use of more expensive modes of transportation. According to Flynn (2010), FedEx Corporation has planned to unveil a comprehensive program to minimize costs and effectively align its express air fleet with present market demands. FedEx has developed operational choices to enhance its strategy of flexibility, responsiveness and quality. While customers now prefer cheaper (slow-moving) delivery services, excess capacity has become more expensive, and therefore FedEx is making appropriate adjustment to its operations.
